E-BIKE | MAXON AIR SCARBON

"This is the paradox of the Concentric Pivot — you get 97% anti-squat for pedalling efficiency, yet the suspension remains fully active over small bumps. Normally these are contradictory goals. High anti-squat means a stiff, unresponsive rear end. But with this architecture and the flat leverage ratio, you achieve both simultaneously. I have never seen this on another platform."

— Fil Palmer (@ebikeitalia6832) — CP Platform Kinematic Paradox Analysis, from video review 2024

Independently validated: ~100% anti-rise at sag | 97.3% anti-squat | 3.0–3.5° pedal kickback | K-Volve full analysis →

Carbon eMTB Enduro — Concentric Pivot

“Paratu” means Lightning in the Taiwanese indigenous Bunun language. Lightning for speed. Lightning for electricity.

Descending: Concentric Pivot

CP stands for Concentric Pivot. The horst link sits at the centre of the rear axle rather than in front of it. This isolates the suspension from braking forces entirely, producing a bottomless feel that inspires confidence in steep, rough terrain.

Paired with a 63.5–63.9° head angle (varies by fork travel — 150 / 160 / 170 mm) and our K-Volve kinematics, the Paratu CP is stable at speed, composed through chunk, and planted through corners — exactly what aggressive enduro riding demands.

Climbing: Maxon Efficiency

The Maxon Bikedrive AIR S was engineered with Swiss precision — inspired by the same motor technology behind NASA’s Mars rover and Ingenuity helicopter. At 90 Nm and 620 W, it delivers serious power. But what sets it apart is efficiency.

  • Tuned for MTB-specific cadence averaging 65 RPM
  • Near-zero drag when the motor is off — the gears retract from the driveshaft
  • Three ride modes (Eco, Trail, Boost) customisable via the Maxon app
  • ANT+/Bluetooth for GPS watches and bike computers

With the 400 Wh in-tube battery, expect 2–5 hours of ride time depending on terrain and mode. Add the 250 Wh range extender (just 1.4 kg in a bottle cage) for up to 650 Wh total — enough for full-day alpine adventures or weekend park sessions.

On the Range Calculator, the Maxon system retains 41% battery after a 1,000 m climb with the range extender — outperforming significantly heavier systems from competitors.

Make It Yours

Pick your rear travel

Same chassis, four shock-stroke configurations. Frame price is identical across all four — most shocks adjust between strokes via clip / washer changes.

145 mm
Light trail

Super-light trailbuild possible at this travel. Quickest, most efficient feel of the four.

150 mm
Trail ripper

Versatile balance of climb efficiency and descent capability. The default we recommend if you're not sure.

160 mm
All-mountain enduro

Bottomless feel on big hits. Pair with a 170 mm fork. The right call for aggressive trail and bike-park days.

165 mm
Mini-DH / enduro

Mini-DH and full enduro feel. Pair with a 170 mm fork. For riders who push the bike on steep, sustained terrain.

Wheel combo (29/29 or 29/27.5 mullet) is rider preference — all four travels work either way.

Pick your rear travel

Four travel options on the same K-Volve / Concentric Pivot frame. Configured via shock stroke length — same eye-to-eye, different stroke. Pair with a 150 / 160 / 170 mm fork to dial the geometry.

145 mm
Superlight trail

Lightest possible build. Fast, flowy terrain. Pair with a 150 mm fork — head angle 63.9°.

150 mm
Trail ripper

The do-it-all setup. All-day trail, mixed terrain. Pair with a 150–160 mm fork.

160 mm
All-mountain enduro

Bottomless feel through chunk. Aggressive trail and enduro. Pair with a 160–170 mm fork.

165 mm
Mini-DH enduro

Steep, fast, aggressive. Bike-park-leaning enduro. Pair with a 170 mm fork — head angle 63.5°.

Does the Paratu CP support mullet (mixed wheel size)?
Yes. 29" or 27.5" rear wheel via the built-in flip chip. Mullet setup raises HTA by ~0.5° and lowers BB drop — see the Mullet & Flip Chip Guide for detailed setup.
What is the frame material and warranty?
Unidirectional carbon fiber (UD) with a lifetime warranty to the first owner against manufacturing defects. Frame weight 2,490-2,800g depending on size and finish.
What rear-shock standards does the frame take?
230mm eye-to-eye with 57.5mm/60mm/62.5mm/65mm stroke options, standard mount. Both air and coil supported — DVO Topaz T3 is our reference shock.
What drivetrain works with the eBike version?

What press has reviewed the Paratu CP?
emtb-test.com (Ludwig Dohl, @ridebetterbikes) performed the independent motor/bike test at 19.5kg enduro spec: 'The Dirtlab Paratu might be an underdog, but it brings qualities that some of the big players can only dream of.'

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Concentric Pivot suspension?

The CP design places the main pivot concentrically with the rear axle. This completely isolates the suspension from braking forces, so the shock stays active and predictable whether you are on or off the brakes. It produces a bottomless, linear feel on rough terrain.

What is included in the frame kit?

Full carbon CP frame, Maxon Bikedrive AIR S motor (90 Nm), 400 Wh in-tube battery, HMI display, mode shifter, E13 Core crankset with 32T chainring, RA Reach Adjust headset, UDH hanger, and internal cable routing kit. Everything you need to build — just add suspension, wheels, drivetrain, and cockpit.

Can I run it as a mullet (mixed wheel)?

Yes. The Paratu CP supports 29″/29″ or 29″/27.5″ mullet via the geometry-preserving yoke flip chip. The flip chip adjusts BB height and head angle so geometry stays balanced in either configuration.

How much travel can I run?

The rear end accepts 145, 150, 160, or 165 mm of travel via a 230 mm eye-to-eye shock (standard mount). Fork compatibility is 150–170 mm. This range covers everything from aggressive trail to full enduro.

What is the Maxon Bikedrive AIR S?

A lightweight eMTB motor system developed in Switzerland. 90 Nm torque, 620 W peak power, 2 kg motor weight. Near-zero drag when off — the internal gears retract from the driveshaft so you can ride fully analog. Three customisable modes via the Maxon app.

How long does the battery last?

The 400 Wh in-tube battery provides 2–3 hours in mixed modes. Add the optional 250 Wh range extender ($769 USD / €699 EU, 1.4 kg, bottle-cage mount) for up to 650 Wh total and 4–5+ hours of ride time. See our Range Calculator for detailed comparisons.

What is the RA Reach Adjust headset?

A proprietary headset system with three positions: 0, −5, or +5 mm of reach adjustment. It lets you fine-tune fit within your frame size or bridge between sizes without changing any other geometry parameters.

What does DDP shipping mean?

Delivered Duty Paid. The price you see is the price you pay — we handle all import duties, taxes, and customs clearance. Free worldwide shipping on all frame kits. No surprise fees at your door.

What is the warranty?

5-year frame warranty, 2-year motor warranty (Maxon), crash replacement programme available. First owner only. See our Warranty Policy for full details.

What is the difference between Paratu CP and Paratu HL?

The Paratu CP uses a Concentric Pivot suspension with the Maxon Bikedrive AIR S motor (90 Nm, 400 Wh). The concentric pivot architecture delivers 97.3% anti-squat, ~100% anti-rise, and 3.0–3.5° pedal kickback — the same frame platform as the Iuhu CP pedal bike, with full motor integration. See the K-Volve Kinematics page for a full engineering breakdown.
